can t rename folders

Whenever I create a new folder and then try to rename it the new name reverts back to "new folder" when I hit enter. Unzipping using 7zip to a new folder with the name of the zip file works fine. Can't rename from within any program I've used so far. Is this a permissions thing or what? I'm logged in as an administrator.

Definitely sounds like a permissions thing. Have you taken "ownership" of the directories in question? And then set your permissions to full for those directories? Being logged in as administrator doesnt seem to mean quite the same thing that it used to. --

You could try this if you havent allready.
Right click the file or directory Properties Security Tab Advanced Owner Tab Edit Then select the user from the list that you want to give ownership to.
Then you will probably still have to give your self permissions too.
Right click the file or directory Properties Security Tab Advanced Edit Edit Then tick the check boxes to give full acess.

I also ran explorer as an administrator. I have found I can change folder names using the command line rename command but not with explorer or an explorer replacement like xplorer2.
I also discovered something odd and something I've not seen before... if you look at the property sheet for explorer.exe and select the security tab you will find a user/group called TrustedInstaller. On my machine this is the only one with full control permissions. All others have Read and Execute and Read.

Hello have you a dual Boot? If yes , have you the same account name and password on the two systems? I had the same problem last week and resetting permissions don't resolve problem. I had fill a bug report. Only "ren" in "cmd" can rename "new folder", and strange, without "runas".

Yes that is the only way I've been able to rename too. But I don't have a dual boot system. This is purely a test machine and this installation was an upgrade.

We can create a new user account. The issue may disappear in the new account. To create a new account, please use the following steps:
1. Click Start Menu, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click switch to a Classic View in left panel.
3. Double-click User Accounts.
4. Click Change another use account.
5. Click Create a new account, and type the name.
6. Choose account type as Computer administrator.
7. Click Create Account.
